The Opal Coast
Only 2 hours from Paris, London and Brussels, the Côte d'Opale stretches over 120 kilometres of beaches, dunes and cliffs from Calais to Berck-sur-Mer.
Whatever interests you most (history, culture, nature, sport, gastronomy…), this region will please you.
On your way, you will come across charming fishermen villages such as Audreselles or Wissant and seaside resorts with anglo-norman Victorian villas such as Wimereux, Hardelot or Le Touquet Paris-Plage.
This coast made up of varied landscapes topped by a changing rainbow-coloured sky animated by the wind is best discovered on foot or by bike. The National Capes Site overlooks one of the busiest navigation channels in the world. When the weather allows, you can see the British coast (34 km away) and the ballet of flobarts, trawlers, pleasure boats and ferries on the sea.
The long stretches of sand are perfectly suited to speed-sailing, sand-sailing, kite flying or walking among dunes which are part of a preserved area.
The history of Calais is very rich. Women all over the world sport its famous lace. The capes and the "stranding-fishing" (pêche à l'échouage) port, which is most appreciated by people looking for excitement and children who want to fish shrimps, contribute to the spectacular scenery.
